Remembering Tom Wiesmann

Tom Wiesmann was an engineer at John Fluke Mfg. Co. Inc. and a good friend. Tom got to know my wife Steph during a trip to Peru in 1984. Originally, Tom and Steph were to travel with my sister-in-law Karen Skoog while my brother Gordy and I climbed in the Cordillera Blanca with other friends. But after Gordy was injured in a home accident he and Karen dropped out of the trip. Tom and Steph went anyway and had a great time. Two years later, Steph, Tom and I traveled with my brother Carl and two other friends to Nepal.

In May 1987, Wiesmann died in a climbing accident in the North Cascades. I created the following slideshow for his memorial service. I rediscovered a VHS tape of the slideshow in March 2016 while sorting through Steph's things following her death in August 2015. The slideshow brought back strong memories, and I decided to have the tape digitized.

The 10 minute program consists of slides arranged to songs from the 1982 Crosby, Stills & Nash album, Daylight Again. Three tunes were used:

"Southern Cross" - Caribbean scuba diving and 1984 Peru trip
"Wasted on the Way" - 1986 Nepal trip
"Song for Susan" - Outings in the Washington Cascades

After seeing Tom's slideshow again, I decided to create a similar memorial to Steph, which you can find here.
