Tom Miller - The North Cascades

This picture book was published in 1964 to promote establishment of a park in the North Cascades, which occurred in 1968. At the time this book was released, the North Cascades Study Team was active but had not yet published its recommendations. The book contains many fine black and white photographs from a climber's perspective, most taken in summer. There are no ski photos. The text is by Harvey Manning.

The introductory material presents the case for a national park in the North Cascades and describes previous conservation efforts and current threats. It includes a map of the park proposal, which appears to be the same as the 1963 North Cascades Conservation Council proposal (nccc-1963-spr-p3). The book is divided into sections, with a short introduction to each region and a selection of photographs:
