A group of paraglider pilots hike the Sauk Mountain trail on a clear October day. This hike is short, but many alpine flights in the Northwest require several miles and thousands of vertical feet of climbing. At the end of a long hike, a mountain pilot never knows if the conditions will be flyable. If the wind isn't right, you have to be prepared to pack it up and walk back down.
