Santa Claus flies Crystal Mountain
One winter I got an idea I hoped would make Crystal Mountain
management more enthusiastic about paragliders. I offered to
dress as Santa Claus (they provided the costume) and fly off the
mountain on Christmas Day. The big day arrived with perfect
weather and I made two flights, photographed by my brother Carl.
You have to live and ski in Washington for a while to appreciate
how improbable this was. We have not been able to repeat the
Christmas stunt, despite several tries.
