Sierra Club Bulletin, Vol. 52, No. 9, Oct 1967, p. 40 - Hessey, Charles D., Jr., "Gateways to the North Cascades"
The author describes the major approaches to the North Cascades--Lake Chelan, the Methow River country, the White River and its tributaries, and the western gateways near Darrington. Gazing from McGregor Mountain, he writes: "The highest points have been climbed, of course, and who knows what long-ago prospector stumbled laboriously along which savage ridge? Yet one can tell that by far the greatest part of what is seen has never known a human track, and the wilderness force of this furious jumble of peaks and ridges ignites the imagination."
