Ray Atkeson - Photographs
These are preliminary notes. I haven't reviewed the Ray Atkeson Image Archive systematically.I contacted Rick Schafer looking for photographs of Dwight Watson taken by Ray Atkeson. I knew from Watson's scrapbook that he and Ray Atkeson were friends from the 1930s. When I drove to Portland to interview Jim Martin on 12 April 2001, I made a short visit to the archive.
Archive manager Carolyn Schrock located two photos of Dwight for me. They depict Dwight at a distance, looking away from the camera, in summertime, with Mt Jefferson in the background, circa 1937. Unfortunately, they were not well suited to my needs. Carolyn said she would keep an eye out for other pictures of Dwight. She also felt confident that they could locate the action photo of Sigurd Hall entitled "Ridge Rocket," published on p. 61 of Ski and Snow. I flipped through many other Atkeson prints depicting skiing and mountaineering. There are many fine Washington skiing photos in the archive, especially around the Mt Baker area.
