Crater Mountain North Cascades
Steve Stroming takes an October flight from Crater Mountain,
Snowfield Peak in the distance. The landing area is a shoulder
of the North Cascades Highway, five thousand feet below. Winds
in the valley can be strong, so we sought the calm morning air.
We bivouacked at our car overnight and started hiking before dawn
to complete the flight before noon.
